A newb question
« on: June 28, 2007, 02:56:24 am »
Hello there. Just looking for a little bit of guidance with Bebot. I use the normal version of Bebot downloaded from here, but I suppose I fall in the category of most users. It's just a simple Orgbot. I'm sure there's just hundreds of hours of really fancy stuff coded in just waiting for me to discover and appreciate it, but we're just humble AO players. We type !online, !items and !calc a lot.

Anyhoo.

I'm having trouble making the privgroup work as I intend it. I'm afraid as a native english speaker most of the descriptions on the various options don't make a great deal of sense to me. I'm sure someone who natively speaks german and learn english later can read them and go 'oh, so thats what that does.', but I can't make heads or tails out of most of it.

So to set it up how I want, I just need to play about and maybe it'll do it.

Anyway. This org is very small. For a farmers city actually. So most of the people who are in the circle of friends within the org have alts all in 'real' orgs. So they need to be automatically invited to the bot. I added all of their names to the guest list (!guest add <person>) but I can't figure out any way to actually make the bot look out for them and auto invite.

An option I thought worked just invited orgmates into a private channel when they logged in. So I guess it's somewhat related to that. When I had a play I couldn't make that aspect of the bot do what I wanted.

So. I'm sorry for being such a newb. How on earth do I make the bot automatically invite out-of-org people who are on the guest list?

Edit: Heh. Kind of worked it out.

/tell botname !autoinvite on - each person has to personally do it? in-bot help files don't really explain it. Well. I guess that's all the help I needed.

Edit2: Or maybe not. Logged on an out-of-org character, /tell botname autoinvite on, it said it would. Logged out, logged in. Nothin'.

To get it working you need to do the following steps.
  • Set autoinvite on per default for members as Chris96 posted. /tell botname !settings Members AutoInvite On
  • Activate the autoinvite in the autoinvite module /tell botname !settings autoinv activated on
  • add your guests

Further you'll need to the Relay module to relay org chat into guest channel and vice versa.

You only need the PrivGroup module if you want to use the guest channel for not autoinvited users too.

One thing though - new org members added will be autoinvited too, if they don't want that anymore they can just do /tell botname autoinvite off though.

Ah so when I had it auto inviting org members, it was actually set up correctly.

Seems a bit silly. They'd see everything twice, or have to keep joining/declining until someone like yourself has clued them in that they can stop it.

Added another setting defining this behavior in SVN, you can select if no new user, only new guest, only new member or any new member or guest will be automatically marked for autoinvite.

Which part doesn't work?

Added informational message telling all automatically invited characters how they can disable the autoinvite to SVN version. That tell can be enabled and disabled via a setting.
