AoC bot auto recognize guild members?
« on: March 24, 2009, 11:08:12 pm »
Hello ... I am new to using BeBot. I am an experienced programmer, however a newbie to PHP).

I have it all installed and running. I have found that if I don't explicitly do a !member add command then the other guild members cannot talk to the bot, they would get a "I only listen to members of this bot." error.

So, question ... does BeBot auto recognize guild users, is there a toggle to turn on? I have the conf file configured to act as a guild bot, or so I think I do.  Or must I !member add ... for each guild member???

Also, I was perplexed why it would say "I only listen to members of this bot." rather than the other message "I only listen to members of (guildname)".  I was looking at the code in bot.php and the condition to show the above two messages is based on  line 876 ...
if ($this -> guild_bot)

I debugged this and at that line "$this -> guild_bot" was null that is why it showed message "I only listen to members of this bot.".

Where is $this -> guild_bot assigned? I could not find reference to "guild_bot" in any of the .php source code.

Appreciate any help/responses.

Cheers,
Eric

Hi Eric,

For the bot to automatically add members to the bot.  The members need to first chat in guild chat.  The bot on default will add each one of those members of the guild to the bot.  The bot sends a tell to each member that is added stating that they have been added.  For the members that just don't tend to want to chat in guild chat.  Well those you will more likely just have to add manually.

ah, thanks for clearing that up.  ;D

I guess my bot must not be acting like a guild bot because it is not automatically adding members who chat in guild chat.

In the bot.conf I have ...

$bot_name = "... set to a character in the guild.
$guild = " ... set to the guild name
$owner = " ... set a one of my characters that is also in the guild
$guildbot = true;
$guild_id = 00000001;

Is there anything else to make it a guild bot?

Is it also true that I could just type !help in guild chat and the bot would pick that up; I do not have to specifically /tell bot !help, right, if done in guild chat?

Log on the Bot manually and make sure it is able to talk in guild. That is the most common issue that I have seen for non-guild function.

Yes, that's such a no-brainer I should have checked that first. The bot toon was just a level 1 still sitting on the beach. Leveled it up past 5 and then it started to work.

Thanks.

NP.. and you dont have to even level it up.. just mess around with the guild tab until it can talk in guild. Just like the issues that new guildies have with guild chat. My Bot is Lvl 1.

Glad you got it to work.  ;D
