Title: Site update and index poll
Post by: Khalem on June 05, 2006, 07:16:15 pm
As part of wanting to get some more flexibility for the site without taking the focus away from the forum i have installed a very lightweight Content Management System (CMS) that integrates fully with the forum. Seeing as you, the users who make BeBot what it is spend more time on the site than i do it is only fair to let you decide what should greet you when you enter the main site. As such a poll has been setup.

For those that prefer to browse the forums without the side coloumns, they can be rolled up and hidden using the "minus" buttons next to the header menu.

All feedback welcomed :)

Just a shameless bump.

This poll will run until Jun 12th.

Initial indications is that people like having the news on the main page, or simply dont care either way.

Not really fan of portals.
However I do like having the recent posts on the right, more fits into it and it's very easy to catch up on new threads using it.
It all gets a bit crowded on lower resolutions though, but that luckiely isn't an issue here

There's not much use rolling up the panels as they still take up overall total width. If you have the blocks all on one side it wouldn't be too bad as we would gain overall width for the forums. Having blocks on both sides just squashes the forum width.

Bump, but I do like the portal being here, just not taking over like it is ^^

Yep, those little two [-] buttons to the right of "logout" - they should be made more prominent though (maybe taken into that top menu somehow). I didn't notice them at first either.

Really appreciate all the feedback :)

I agree fully with the placement of the roll up buttons, they are not the most intuitive. However im not sure if they can be moved easilly without causing problems.
Im not a web guy either which doesnt help ;)

I like the new layout.
And personally I don't think those buttons at the top are too small.

The first thing I did after reading the top news post was to try out the two little minus boxes in the top - they practically called "click me" :)
