Title: odd thing about whois
Post by: Dracutza on November 17, 2006, 05:49:58 pm
in using neo-vortex's aochat fix, when members effected by FC's integer issue login, they are announced as expected.  They also appear on the !online function.  But when doing a !whois for the same person, the resonse is something to the effect of "funcom did not respond on time."

While this is a step up from "player does not exist," I am wondering where the issue lays.

Why do 2 of the 3 modules commonly used for player identification work, and 1 does not?  Is there something in the whois command that i can look at fixing to correct this?

This issue existes in 0.2.9 also.  I've tried looking for something here mentioning it, but the results didn't really seem to help.

This is a problem on FC's side.
Their XML application seems to be having issues with the new characters and throws odd errors for this reason.
(It seems they are unaware about it too, I was contacted by someone today who petitioned it and was spoken to by a GM. After explaining the situation the GM told him to seek support from the bot authors)

Funcom are aware as pointed out by Sirillion, but have no time to devote to fixing it.
All hands on deck for Lost Eden which will ship on December 12th with clearly far from enough testing.

whois uses FC's database, where guild logon and online use auno?

The reason in different behaviour is that Whois asks the server about information about a character. As far as Funcom XML is concerned, that character does not exsist. Online displays the character name, because the Chatserver knows both the character id and the nickname of the character, hence it is able to tell us the name, but only the name. Same goes for !is, all it does is check the chatserver if nickname is online.

For the record, Auno uses Funcom XML, so as long as Funcom XML does not return information for new characters, neither does Auno.

In short, we have the character id, and nickname, thats all.

Hi Khalem,

Although, it would be correct to assume that if you use the Alreadythere's whois cache and the person is at least org'ed - the information should filter thru into !whois eventually anyway (because that looks up from the whois cache first and cache updates manually from working XML where orgs are concerned).

Cheers,

That'll only work with the out-of-bot update script. And only if FC hasn't botched the org infos either.

Org info is working fine thankfully.  And yeah, I meant the manually updating script.
