Log parse
« on: October 07, 2005, 07:24:01 am »
Hi,

Is there a way to parse the Bebot log's? Theres way to much stuff in there and its not even on seperate line for different entries. Would be nice to have something to parse and clean the log to output something that is readable from what have been type in a private group.

thanks

It is on separate lines actually, i suspect the problem is that you are using a text editor that doesnt understand unix newlines.

I cant recall if it was Windows Notepad or Wordpad that couldnt handle em, but in either case, just try using the opposite. It wont solve your parsing issue, but it will make the log readable.

Khalem is right. Notepad doesn't understand it. Use Wordpad to open the log and you'll get each entry on a new line.

Use a database to log instead :)

99% of the time a log doesn't have to be looked at. It just sits there untill it gets deleted cause its to old anyway. :P So why usedatabase resources? I'm running a bot that creates daily plaintext logs of around 600kb to 1.5MB. Writing all that info into the would really bloat it up unnecesarily.
Due to the format of the log it should be really easy to write a little script that extracts only the information you need. Almost as easy as pulling it outof a DB. ;)
