Title: Adding members issue.
Post by: Bart on December 06, 2006, 07:17:04 pm
OK after a day of near nervous breakdown I need help.

I have started a new raidbot for friends to do raids like HI and smug and stuff. We  have added a few members, but for some reason the bot is refusing to add some people. I do the !member <name> in private or in channel and get the message <nam> has been added to the bot, but the person(s) don't get a message from the bot and when they try to use the functions they get "I only listen to members..."

Any ideas?

Check the bot console for errors.

Check whether they are newish characters that have ID's over the 32bit int limit and make sure you have the int fix.

It's possible you didn't set the default command permissions.  Try !commands in tell and see if you have any options there.  You didn't mention any console errors, it's possible the members aren't being written into the database which would be another reason the bot doesn't recognise them.

I saw this error before, usually it was with console error "can't connect to www.anarchy-online.com.....", on my bot it not shows AI lvls on online list, i posted info about this bug before.

I saw this problem with NAT connection through Kerio Winroute Firewall on windows. This is not bot code.

btw, what operation system u using? Windows? i just wondering, couse i never saw this bug on linux or Solaris

This is very odd.

If an error is encountered when adding a member, you should see the error in the console. The error would in all likelyhood be a MySQL error.
The only other reason i can think of is if the bot does not have sufficient priviledge to read/write data from/to the database.

It would also help to know what version of the bot you are running, if you are running any mods, and what permissions your database user has for the database.

Finally, check for MySQL errors during startup that would indicate that database tables are not being created, which in turn would explain the inability to communicate with the bot for supposedly added members, but does not explain the lack of console errors.
