Title: The new !news module
Post by: grasfer on July 16, 2008, 03:31:08 pm
Hi there, is there any settings to turn off the No news notify to users who logs on? If there is no news there is no point telling people that when they login :)

Each user can use !preferences to turn logon news notification on or off as they prefer - finally !preferences does something :D

Ok thats cool, but is there any global setting i can set so the bot don't spam if there is no new news? Annoying answer all questions in guild chat 'what is that bot and new news thingie' all the time :P

kinda.

What I did was in the preferences you can set it to default no login spam.  If I add news to it then I will change the default to link.  If I have no news, then back to no login spam.

!preferences

I take your point Gras - there is currently no global setting for that.... until I add one in it might be an idea to add the first news item telling ppl about !preferences...

Kel, !preferences only affects you, not your guildmates....

That's what I thought at first, but if you click on the D next to the command in the preferences it does not send it to anyone, I monitored the bot as other people logged in and logged in as an alt to double check myself as well.

Default setting effects everyone unless they change it to something else.

So thanks for this post, learned me about preferences that works for users ;) I'll post that as a news...

Question: if a user turns this off logon news spam, and we add an important news, how do they then see this important news? I presume there is no flags on news to override the users settings, so basically he's left blind to whats going on right? Do I correctly understand this?

only suggestion for that one would be to edit the guild MOTD to say check !news for important news today
