upcomming patch notes
« on: July 31, 2008, 02:01:25 am »
First and foremost I take really no credit for this module, I merely copied the "rules.php" and replaced everything that said "rules" with "patch". My sincerest apologies if this is considered bad form, if my programming skills were not so limited I would of chose another method. Anyhow credit to those listed in the comments found in the rules.php :)

On to the module.

Some of the members in my guild are not so forum savvy and up to date with what Funcom is planning. I thought it would be nice if they could easily view the patch notes in game. For those who are informed perhaps it could be a quick reference.

First install the module like any other, then there is a folder and file everyone should already have from the rules.php in the root directory called txt. In this folder create a new document called patch.txt and copy and paste the patch notes from your source.

The only true pain I found was color coding the text, for me I am picky and like to have different colors here and there for headlines/bold lettering and what not however this is a matter of preference and you could easily <font color=#FF0000>'insert patch notes'</font> for the entire document.

I hope this can be of use to some of you/reedited to a more professional module or whatever its future may hold.

hmm this is a pretty good idea, I'll play around with it.

It will be a pain to update when they put a new patch out, but if my guildmates use it I won't mind updating it.

If someone felt like the hassle, theres nothing stopping you taking the patch notes and reformatting into a more bot friendly format and uploading them somewhere the bots could retrieve them from. A quick 2 minuite copy and paste and adding a few tags is all it would take :)

Dam, would actually not like to have the upcoming notes only... maybe a way to have both current and upcoming somehow, mini menu maybe triggering when typing patch maybe... then the choice of the two :)

I created a guide for the guides module called "Archived Patch Notes"

in guide.lst I added the following code:

<a href='chatcmd:///tell <botname> <pre>guide 13'>LINK</a> 13 - Archived Patch Notes

I then created a file : 13.txt and added this code:

<font color=#ffd700>Previous Patches</font>

      <a href='chatcmd:///tell <botname> <pre>guide patch073008'>LINK</a> Patch: July 31, 2008

I then copied the July 31st patch notes into a file I call patch073008.

Kind of just a temp solution but it works for now.
