As my server wasnt affected last round of mergers, just curious how badly it affected people or their bots.
This round of mergers I am indeed being mergerd and there are alot of character who will have to rename and such.
Will the bot auto handle this or would it just be easier purging the whois database.
-
if the character you use is forced a rename you will have to adjust your .conf file accordingly
-
I think what the OP was asking was not if the name of the bot will change but if guild member names will change will the whois database update itself.
No idea if this is helpful: I have had some members pay for name changes and it has kept up with them in the bot if I remember correctly. Someone else might be able to post with more accurate details as it has been some time since the last member paid for such a change. I do remember thinking "huh? wow that updated nicely"

Run some forced "!rosterupdate" after the merge and it will be fine i think.
All char got their uniq ID, that do not change if they change name.
This uniq ID is stored in the bot, from what i remember last merge bot updated the member names when doing a "!rosterupdate" if the bot didnt allready do it.

Getrix and Justine are correct from my experiences as well :)

im thinking of packing up the table and going again from scratch anyway.
we have lost lots and gained new ones, had re-rolls etc..
on startup the bot still has several
add #######
and
rem #######
for people who have transfered 1 toon off the server.
