Title: New Linux Guide?
Post by: seknetari on November 16, 2011, 03:20:24 am
I've used the old guide (http://bebot.link/helpful-posts/bebot-on-linux/ (http://bebot.link/helpful-posts/bebot-on-linux/)), but I have run into some problems. Is there an up-to-date Linux installation guide out there? I've searched around and cannot find one.

I am not real familiar with Ubuntu, but I will take a stab at it.

I see the guide is set up for Ubuntu, so most of it should work... with the exceptions of versions and where to get stuff...

1) change php4 to php5. The newer version is needed instead of php 4
2) get mysql 5.5.x or the latest version of mysql
3) get the latest version of the bot from: wget http://launchpad.net/bebot/0.6/0.6.8/+download/BeBot-0.6.8.zip
4) unzip BeBot-0.6.8.zip

The rest of the guide still applies for the most part. If you have questions about any part, I can try to help you there too.

Shelly, your right.

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install php5-cli
sudo aptitude install php5-mysql
sudo aptitude install mysql-server
Im not sure, but think mysql-server-5.1 should be installed with mysql-server as it takes the last version.

If you prefer apt-get, that should also work insted of aptitude

Now that I have Bebot unzipped, how do I install the custom modules like aamon and yg? Don't they have to go into a special folder? I'm trying to learn this on my own, but I am not having much success. Thank you all for your help. I greatly appreciate it! -Seknetari

@seknetari
custom modules go into your "bot_folder/custom/modules/" folder and need to be .php instead of .phps files. Just rename them and remove the final "s".

Okay, I never actually finished doing this, life got in the way. But now I am making another attempt. I have Ubuntu server installed and php and mysql are both on the server. Again, I started following these instructions, http://bebot.link/helpful-posts/bebot-on-linux/ (http://bebot.link/helpful-posts/bebot-on-linux/) since it was mentioned that they are basically correct.

I am stuck on the downloading and installing of the Items zip file. Bebot 6.8 doesn't seem to have this items download. I can only find one file to download. I tried to skip this step to see if things were put into one download file, but when I get into the Mysql part of the instructions, there is no "items.sql" file to use as my source.

How do I get past this step?

Btw, I have Bebot working on Windows 7, but I want the bot to start when the computer starts up - and I read somewhere on here that Linux can do that. I hope that is correct. Otherwise I am going crazy for nothing.  ;D

I started from scratch again and the bot seems to be working. I must have missed a step or a setting was incorrect the first time.
