Title: Character ID after Character Cleanup/Rename
Post by: redmagician on March 23, 2010, 12:25:48 am
Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing some issues specifically with whois and roster that are related to the character id.
After the rename some characters in my org now have a -1 at the end of their name.
Whois and roster refuse to do anything with these names because they return an invalid character id.

I was confused and thought the bot was to blame but after a few hours of looking at the code I realized that wasn't the case.
I logged on to AO and attempted to send tells to these characters.
The game just returned an "Invalid character" message every time i tried.
The odd part was that tells to the original names (no -1 at the end) seemed to work just fine.

I tried to come up to solutions to the problem and browsed launchpad (attempted to anyway, launchpad just confuses me :() but I couldn't really come up with a solid solution. Ignoring the character id and blindly accepting the data on PoRK would work but it feels like that would cause more problems.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this.
I know that the transferred -1 characters seems to be working fine, as there is no outrage from the german community that they cannot send tells to eachother.

I suspect it might be because the chatserver has not updated because these characters simply has not logged in after their name was changed.

There is nothing we can do about this afaik as this is a problem with Funcom's chatservers.
I've fired off a PM to Means, so we'll see if anything happens.
